Taking a Praxis exam is a major milestone for aspiring teachers. Administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service), the Praxis series includes Core Academic Skills tests, subject-specific assessments (e.g., Elementary Education, Mathematics, PLT), and state-specific versions. Whether you’re testing at a Prometric center, university, or other authorized site, security is very strict similar to airport protocols. Knowing exactly what to bring (and what to leave behind) ensures you won’t be turned away on Praxis test day.
Required for Everyone
- Praxis Admission Ticket – Print it from your ETS account (phone screenshots or digital versions are not accepted).
- Valid, Unexpired Photo ID – Name must exactly match your Praxis registration (driver’s license, passport, state/provincial ID, or national ID).
- Face Mask – Required at most centers for entry and check-in (bring extras just in case).
Test-Specific Items
- Calculator-permitted tests (e.g., Praxis Core Math 5733, Middle School Mathematics, etc.): Use the on-screen calculator or bring an ETS-approved handheld model.
- Praxis Art: Content and Analysis (5135): Upload 4 digital images at least 3 days before your test date and bring printed copies with image IDs to the testing center.
- Approved accommodations: If ETS granted accommodations (extra time, separate room, etc.), bring necessary items like medical devices, insulin, or labeled snacks/drinks.
What NOT to Bring
Cell phones, smartwatches, hats, bags, jackets, food, water bottles (unless medically approved), highlighters, or notes everything must go in a locker. Pockets must be empty during testing.
